These compositions present precious living things, flora and fauna, the creativity of nature, while evidence of upheaval and disruption expressed in gravity defying compositions suggest a look beyond material forms. Collaged fragments are combined in these compositions with tilted angles and exposed raw edges. Occasional textile patterns and words indicate humanity's presence.
The process involves hot wax on a hot plate where cyanotypes and photo transfers are encased in a translucent beeswax medium that is touched with pigment. Beeswax is itself a statement of something precious and compromised due to diminishing honey bee populations. Isobel is drawn to this process as the embalming of the collaged imagery creates translucent layers which contribute to the visceral and emotive qualities of the artwork. |
